As we near the start of a new year, it is time to reflect on the year that is passing and plan for the year that is to start. A book by Jon Gordon introduced the concept of choosing one word to guide your year. Is that something you typically do? I propose you select PREVENT as your word for 2022, and here’s why.
When I speak to groups I commonly ask a simple yet deep question. What are the top 3 things that you fear could derail your retirement plans? So, I ask you to pause before reading further and answer that question for yourself.
After years of having this conversation with groups, clients, friends, and family three things nearly always make the list.

After 30 years in healthcare, I can’t begin to count the number of patients I saw who had just experienced a rapid health decline that was completely preventable. Each of their stories stemmed from decline based in one or all three of these areas. This drove me to leave my leadership position in academia to help thousands avoid these situations. They truly can be prevented.
